If you're worried about someone you love.
- Ask directly. Asking about suicide does not plant the idea. It often relieves pressure to be alone with it.
- Stay with them if they're in immediate danger. Help them call 988, or call together. Remove access to means if you can.
- Listen without fixing. You don't need the perfect words. Presence matters more than advice.
- Take care of yourself too. Supporting someone in crisis is heavy work. 988 is also for people supporting others — you can call for guidance.
